Diehard fans say they are worried this is going to be the team's last season as they cheered on the Fat Cats at Ottawa Stadium Saturday for their home opener.

The last time local fans saw the team play was during their unlikely run to last year's Intercounty Baseball League final, where they ultimately fell to the Brantford Red Sox.

Ottawa is now in negotiation with the American Company, Boston's Beacon Sports, to get a AA baseball team to the stadium for 2013.

"I don't like it at all. Them playing here. Nope." said Fat Cat fan Ryan Brisboas.

"Ninety per cent of our team is from the region so a lot of fans come out here to see guys play from Ottawa," said Fat Cat Assistant General Manager Jonathan Trottier.

It may be tough for the stadium to accommodate both teams and their fans.

AA baseball is two levels down from the MLB--some say a possible farm team for the Toronto Blue Jays.

"The Blue Jays have been known to keep their best players in the AA. It would be awesome to see the young kids grow up. Thats what AA baseball is all about," said baseball fan Kevin Lewis.

The city will be spending $5.7 million while Boston's Beacon Sports will be investing $5.5 million in repairs. The "to do" list includes upgrading seats, purchasing a new scoreboard and upgrading the field itself.

A double A team may officially be announced this fall.
