Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is re-focusing on reducing the size of city council.

Watson looked ready to revisit one of his campaign promises in a tweet sent Friday morning.

"Ottawa has most number of elected officials of any major city per capita aside from Montreal. Should we look at reducing size of council?" he said.

Watson said the city could save up to $2 million a year if council was reduced to between 14 and 17 members.

Ottawa city council currently has 24 members.

He said the next step is to get feedback from the public on a potential reduction.
