A pedestrian is in hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by a vehicle that mounted the sidewalk and struck a bus shelter early Monday morning.

Traffic Services is investigating the collision, which occurred at Steeles Avenue East and Birchmount Road at about 8 a.m.

According to police, an SUV and a car collided, sending the car off the road where it struck a pole and a bus shelter. A woman in her 40s was struck by the car a short distance from the shelter.

The woman was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries. It is unclear whether the injuries are life threatening.
