Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson suffered a setback before Monday's night playoff game and is day-to-day with a concussion.
Ottawa head coach Paul MacLean said Alfredsson's setback came after the morning skate and before Game 3 of their series against the New York Rangers, which the Senators lost 1-0.
Alfredsson didn't skate Tuesday or Wednesday morning and is listed as day-to-day.
"Nothing's changed, I'm not going to speculate (if he'll skate Wednesday)," MacLean said. "We're going to evaluate it and see what it is in the morning, if he's better and things go (well) we'll evaluate the lineup and make the decision then."
This is Alfredsson's second concussion of the season and came on a hit from Carl Hagelin, who is suspended two more games.
The coach credited the rest of the team for stepping up their game without him.
"He's the captain of the team and he's the most experienced player on our team; it's a big loss for any team," MacLean said. "I think the team stepped up and played really well . . . That's what needs to happen when your team faces adversity."
"Obviously Alfie's a huge part of our team, if he's out of our lineup that's a big hole we have to fill," said defenceman Matt Carker, who was suspended for Game 3 for punching Rangers forward Brian Boyle.
"We've been resilient all year, our guys come together and we usually rise to the occasion. A bounce here and there last game, we could have been talking about another win."
Bobby Butler came into the lineup to take Alfredsson's place on Monday.
Game 4 is Wednesday night at Scotiabank Place.
