A two-person apartment in an east Ottawa highrise was burned to the point of no return early Saturday.

Ottawa fire officials said they were first called to a bedroom fire in room 1203 of 170 Lees Avenue around 12:47 a.m. Saturday.

While they were en route they got many more 911 calls reporting fire alarms and visible smoke in the building.

They said flames were coming out the window when they arrived, with the three-bedroom apartment fully involved.

The fire was put out after causing $200,000 damage to the building and $35,000 damage to its contents.

Two people are homeless after the fire, with two people taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause is still under investigation.
