Flames tore through a row house in Lowertown Wednesday morning, causing $25, 000 in damage.

Emergency crews were called to a home at 454 Old Saint Patrick Street at 7:40 a.m. after reports of thick, black smoke.

Investigators say the fire began in the basement where an upholstered chair caught fire.

There were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $25, 000.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
