An area northwest of Ottawa has been evacuated after a fire and gas leak overnight.

When the Ontario Fire Marshall was inspecting the scene of a fire in Haley Station on Sunday they found a leaking tank of acetylene, a colourless gas used in welding.

Renfrew OPP said some local residents have been evacuated but will be able to return Monday once that leaking tank and another intact one have been removed.

They said that structure fire on Sullivan Street, just over 100 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa, broke out after midnight Sunday.

An adult male was hospitalized with burns and broken bones after escaping through a window.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the OPP and Fire Marshall and anyone with information can call 1-888-310-1122.
