OTTAWA - Liberal MP Justin Trudeau had to do some damage control after making some controversial remarks on French radio on the weekend.

The Montreal MP appeared to suggest Quebec separation would be acceptable if most English-Canadians supported the Harper government's right-wing policies.

That prompted Bloc Quebecois MP Maria Mourani to say her party would welcome Trudeau with open arms.

Outside the Commons, an emotional Trudeau declared his love for a united Canada, adding this country is in his bones and every breath he takes.

And, Trudeau says it's ridiculous for anyone to suggest he's a separatist.

Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae downplayed the issue, saying Justin Trudeau strongly believes in a united Canada.

Rae says Trudeau always has, and always will.
