CTV Ottawa Sports - Athlete of the Week - 2012
Ottawa's sports enthusiasts are some of the best in the country. In a salute to those who play sports of all different disciplines, the CTV Sports team brings you the Athlete of the Week.
May 10, 2012: Tina Liusun
Tina Liusun is one of the top shot putters and javelin throwers in Ottawa. She also has a 96 percent average and has developed a program at school linking seniors to technology.
May 3, 2012: Sheniz Eryuzlu
Sheniz Eryuzlu is a multi-sport athlete at All Saints Catholic High School who keeps a 97 average, good enough to study medicine next year as she moves on to university.
Apr. 26, 2012: Cheerleader Caroline Foody
Caroline Foody has suffered numerous injuries from her sport. She plays a crucial role throwing and catching her squad mates, When she’s not competing, she’s achieving academic success and plans to head off to university next year.
Apr. 19, 2012: Basketball player Kevin Zabo
Kevin Zabo is a basketball standout from Gatineau. At just 14-years-old, he received a full scholarship from one of the top high schools in the U.S. Now, he has big dreams to star in the NBA.
Apr. 12, 2012: Squash player Alina D’asti
St. Joseph Catholic High School student Alina D'asti is putting in hours of work against men and women as she prepares for the national junior squash championships.
Mar. 29, 2012: Cross-country skiers Emilie and Katherine Stewart-Jones
Emily and Katherine Stewart-Jones got into cross-country skiing because of their family ties. They're also relying on the sport to help them deal with the loss of their mother to cancer last year.
Mar. 22, 2012: Speedskater Hannah Morrison
Hannah Morrison has given new meaning to taking on the family business. She comes from a family of speedskaters and now she is one of the best athletes in her sport. Morrison recently won four speedskating medals at the Ontario provincial championships.
Mar. 15, 2012: Basketball player Marial Shayok
St. Patrick’s High School basketball star Marial Shayok is ranked among the top ten high school players in the country, and he’s only in Grade 11.

On the court, in the pool and in the classroom, 17-year-old Alixia Farrell works hard in all she does.

Champion water polo player Johanna Pinto Lee said she was once afraid of the water. Now, the three-team star is a leader both in and out of the pool.

École Secondaire Publique De la Salle student Valerie Desormeaux is putting her flexibility to the test when she auditions for the National Circus School this month.

Maddie Allen juggled many sports before settling on soccer, but it’s paying off. The 17-year-old is off to an American university on a full scholarship.

Prescott’s Alaine Chartrand is moving up into national senior competition, but she’s not just happy to be there. The 15-year-old is the only female skater in Canada to land a triple-triple this season.
