Tired of sitting around after a day of turkey, big crowds hit Ottawa businesses early Monday for the hustle and bustle of Boxing Day.

At the Rideau Centre, James Allan was as much a supervisor as he was a dad.

"It's been very hectic as a matter of fact, my daughter knows where she wants to go and I'm doing the dutiful father thing by watching and paying," he said. "I wasn't really enthused."

For all the shopping that happens before Christmas, consumers said Boxing Day is still Canada's most well-known day for deals.

"For Canada, Boxing Day is much bigger of a known shopping holiday than Black Friday or Cyber Monday, which came down from the U.S.," Derek Szeto of redflagdeals.com told CTV News Channel.

The deals to be found were a source of pride for those eager to show off their purchases.

"I bought a $200 jacket for $150," said one shopper.

"They were almost half off; you would have bought them, wouldn't you?" asked another.

Hundreds also gathered at one Ottawa Best Buy location before sunrise to take advantage of the savings, just a few snapshots of the money being spent all over the area.
