Ottawa residents woke up to a winter wonderland Wednesday morning after an overnight snowfall blanketed the region.
The city received three centimeters of snow by 4 a.m. and a couple more were expected by noon.
In certain areas the accumulation was much greater. In Merrickville, 10 to 15 centimetres of snow fell between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
No school buses were cancelled but warnings of slippery road conditions were issued for the morning commute.
Police say they received calls for several minor collisions including two OC Transpo buses that slipped into ditches.
City crews were out in full force salting and plowing roads.
Highway 7 east of Kaladar is closed due to a crash involving two tractor-trailers and a Greyhound bus. Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead as a result.
Environment Canada updated a severe weather bulletin for southern Ontario at 6:45 a.m. A freezing rain warning continues for Gananoque, Mallorytown, Brockville, Prescott, Westport, Charleston Lake, Merrickville, Wolford and Kemptville.
The freezing rain warning is over for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Stirling, Tweed, Madoc, Tamworth, Sydenham, South Frontenac, Kaladar, Bannockburn and Bon Echo Park.
