A public service announcement to those new to Ottawa: no, October weather in the nation's capital is not usually like this.

Back-to-back days of record-breaking high temperatures on Thanksgiving weekend brought a flashback to summer and smiles to the faces of many.

"It's unbelievable," said Ed Furman, who is visiting from Pittsburgh. "We thought we'd be wearing snowboots and winter jackets."

"This is amazing," said Nicholas Balfe, who just moved to Ottawa after two years in Alaska. "This is my wife's hometown, she likes to be back here with her family. The weather is a pretty good sell as well."

Sunday's Environment Canada reading of 27.6 degrees broke the previous record for Oct. 9, 26.7 degrees set in 1949. Saturday's 25.5 degrees also beat 1955's record of 23.9 degrees.

People had to break out the shorts and bathing suits that some had even packed away for the year.

"We put away our summer clothing thinking ‘This is it, winter's here,'" said one person out on the sunny streets.

Abby Hill Farms in south Ottawa had already prepared themselves for the fall harvest, not expecting the crowd of families out for their petting zoo in the heat.

"This is the best weather we've seen for Thanksgiving," said owner Graham Green. "It's almost too hot today."

It may have been said before, but this warm weather won't last. Rain is in the forecast starting Wednesday, with temperatures forecasted to dip down to 16 degrees.
