Gatineau city council has decided against awarding bonuses for bilingualism to the city's white collar workers.
Councillors withdrew the bonus after opponents denounced the move at a council meeting Tuesday night.
Under the program, bilingual workers would have been given a bonus of 45 cents an hour.
The bonuses would have cost taxpayers about $75, 000 a year more.
