TORONTO - The Ontario Green party says it has not received a response to its request to be included in the broadcast leaders' debate.

The debate is set for Sept. 27 and will be the only head-to-head meeting of the party leaders ahead of the Oct. 6 provincial election.

Green officials note they are running a full slate of 107 candidates and garnered 354,897 votes in the 2007 election.

The party, which does not have a seat in the legislature, has launched the petition website LetMikeSpeak.ca and there are campaigns on Facebook calling for their inclusion.

Provincial Leader Mike Schreiner was joined by national Leader Elizabeth May at a news conference today at the Ontario legislature where they argued the Greens are presenting a fresh perspective in the campaign.

They said that perspective needs to be presented at the debate.

"Politics as usual isn't working," said Schreiner.

"Attack ads and hyper partisan politics have interfered with the progress of Ontario long enough."
