Nearly 300 residents who were evacuated from their northern Ontario community because of out of control wildfires will arrive in Ottawa Wednesday night.
Emergency workers say dense smoke is the main concern as the fire gets closer to the remote First Nations community, located about 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
In total, the fire is expected to evacuate about 3,000 people from the northwestern part of the province. There were more than 100 active fires in the area Wednesday morning.
The displaced residents are being put up in hotels and other centres across the province until it is safe for them to return home.
About 265 residents from Kingfisher Lake First Nation will be staying at Algonquin College in Ottawa. They're expected to be here for up to two weeks.
The bill to get the residents out of the evacuation zone will be paid for by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, a department of the federal government.
