A provincial conciliator has helped both sides in a contract dispute that closed the Valu-Mart grocery store in Shawville reach a tentative agreement.

The store, which is owned by Loblaw, was closed in May after the union rejected a contract offer from the company.

The Valu-Mart is the only grocery store in the Shawville region, and the closure put pressure on both sides to strike a new deal.

A provincial conciliator met with both sides last week and a tentative agreement was reached. The workers will vote on the deal this week. If the contract is approved, the store will reopen.
