A Belleville man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an 88-year-old woman in July.

40-year-old Pierre Parent is facing one count of second-degree murder, one count of theft over $5,000 and one of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 after a lengthy investigation by Belleville police.

Also charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 is 43-year-old Judy DeJong of Belleville.

The pair was arrested Friday, and police say they were known to the victim.

The charges are related to the sudden death of Catharine Oliver on July 20, 2010 in her Belleville home.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court Saturday for their bail hearings.
