Cornwall police are investigating an alleged cheap shot that left a young Kanata hockey player injured during a playoff game against the Cornwall Colts in the Central Hockey League.
The Colts opened scoring off the mark on Sunday, putting a goal past veteran Kanata Stallions goaltender Scott Shackell only 39 seconds in.
Eighteen seconds later, a Cornwall forward apparently crashed into the veteran Kanata goalie, running him down. The 20-year-old goaltender hit his head on the ice and suffered a concussion.
Shackell, who was forced to leave the game after less than a minute of play, previously made 61 saves against the Cornwall Colts on Friday. The Kanata Stallions won that game 3-1.
The Cornwall forward was handed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for his actions. Now, police are investigating.
The Cornwall Colts lead the series 2-1. The next game is scheduled Tuesday night in Kanata.
