A Riverside South family has a new member after a dad successfully delivered a healthy baby girl Thursday morning.

Paramedics said Jonathan Gardam delivered his daughter, Kyla, with the help of communications officers after his wife, Kamerine, went into labour.

"They told me to grab blankets, grab string," said Jonathan. "They kept stressing how slippery a newborn is and I can attest to that.

"They are very slippery."

The baby girl was delivered at 3:46 a.m. just as paramedics walked through the door.

Little Kyla was in a hurry to be born, say her parents. They thought they still had hours before they would meet their new daughter, not minutes.

The couple said it was a team effort to bring their baby into the world.

"He was great," said Kamerine of her husband. "I couldn't have done it without him."

Kyla weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

The family is doing well and resting at home.
