Drivers across Ottawa are facing record-high gas prices in this busy travel time leading up to Christmas.

As of Thursday, pump prices across the city were hovering at $1.16/litre. This time last year, they averaged $.95/litre.

It's only expected to get higher, analysts said.

Many drivers were frustrated by the rising prices just days before Christmas.

"It's not cool," said driving instructor Alex Pape. "Everything's just too expensive, especially with being on the road all the time."

Taxi drivers are being especially affected by the pinch at the pump.

"Most of the money they make they give to gas companies or the taxi companies," said Amrik Singh of the Ontario Taxi Union. "So they go home with almost nothing."

Gas prices are expected to continue to rise over the next few days.
