OTTAWA - The man in charge of space development for the Department of National Defence suggests a new space defence policy couldn't come at a better time.
Col. Andre Dupuis says the first space policy came out in 1998 and he's worried by what's been going on above our heads in recent years.
He told the annual conference of the Canadian Space Society today that the environment in space has become congested, contested and competitive.
In February, 2009, an American communications satellite slammed into a Russian military satellite and China used a missile to destroy one of its weather satellites in 2007.
Dupuis said the defence department's new space defence policy is almost complete and has reached the highest levels for final review and sign-off.
