The Ottawa Hospital is speeding up plans to deal with mould growing in some of its rooms after a concerned patient contacted CTV Ottawa about the problem.
The patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, e-mailed CTV Ottawa photos of her mouldy bathroom on the fourth-floor of the Ottawa Hospital's General Campus.
When CTV contacted the hospital, a spokesperson said the hospital became aware of ventilation problems in its psychiatric unit back in April, and made plans to repair it.
The hospital insists the mould is isolated, and patients aren't at risk.
"We do want to apologize to the patients . . . their health is our number one concern," said Cameron Love, the Ottawa Hospital's vice president of facilities.
In all, 14-18 rooms on the fourth-floor have mould growing in them. The problem has apparently been brought to the hospital's attention several times, but patients say nothing has ever been done.
"When we ask about getting something done about this, the response is always the same, it's on our list of things to do," said the patient who e-mailed CTV Ottawa.
The hospital had planned to complete the repairs by Christmas. It now plans to get the problem fixed much sooner.
