There has never been a warmer eight months in a row in the city of Ottawa. And so far, September feels more like July.

Perhaps no-one knows that better than Courtney Callaghan, who has been pregnant for seven out of those out months.

"It's been quite hot. On days when there is a lot of humidity, I just stay in the house, where there is air conditioning."

Almost 20 days above 30

Last summer, the mercury only reached above 30 degrees for seven days. This summer 19 days.

Normally, the start of September means putting away the flip-flops. Not now -- pedicures are still brisk business.

"This year we are very busy right now, and we are already in September," says Sylvie Canonico, Rinaldo's Spa manager.

"And if the weather is still hot, people will still wear sandals, and they are going to do their feet."

Warm weather will make better fall colours

Because this summer has also been a relatively wet one, the fall colours should be better than ever, according to David Phillips, a senior climatologist with Environment Canada.

"Trees love this weather just as much as humans," he says. "The trees are healthy, and they are about to reward us with these brilliant colours."

And what about the fall forcast?

"The promise for September into October looks like more warm days than cool days," Phillips says. "You can't prevent that frost, or first dusting of snow, but overall if you pick your days right, the landscape will never be more beautiful."
