An Ontario family has been reunited with a toddler who went missing overnight after he got lost in a cornfield.

Three-year-old Jessie Chmiel went missing on his family's 16-acre property in Bradford, Ont., at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

About 120 police officers and firefighters spent the night searching for him, with the help of police dogs, ATVs and a helicopter.

Police found the boy alive and well Friday morning, nearly 11 hours after he went missing. He was carried out of the corn fields in the arms of his father at about 6 a.m.

"He was thankful and smiling and wanted to go on an ATV ride and tractor ride," said the boy's father, Peter Chmiel, laughing. "It's good to have him back."

Chmiel said his four children were playing on the outskirts of the cornfield when he noticed the youngest one went missing. The family looked for the boy among the 12-foot high corn stalks but once the sun started to set, they called police for help.

After Jessie was found, he was taken to hospital as a precaution. But police said he was doing well.

"He's been discharged from hospital," the boy's father told reporters Friday morning. "He had mosquito bites and was a bit dehydrated. He was a little bit cold and a bit hungry but in good spirits.

"Without the police force, I don't know what we would have done," he added.

Bradford is approximately a one-hour drive north of Toronto.
