CFB TRENTON, Ont. - A military plane carrying Macneil's casket landed at CFB Trenton, in eastern Ontario, this afternoon.

His body will be driven along a stretch of Highway 401 called the Highway of Heroes, and roads in Toronto named the Route of Heroes, to the coroner's office.

Macneil, 28, of Glace Bay, N.S., was killed by a makeshift bomb Monday about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City.

He was on his fourth and final tour of Afghanistan, and had just become engaged.

Macneil is the 148th Canadian Forces member to die as part of the Afghan mission that started in 2002.
