Trustees at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board are backing down from a $165,000-cutback in language training.

The trustees voted to reinstate six staffing positions in a program that helps new immigrants deal with language issues.

School board chair Cathy Curry fired a letter to the federal immigration minister to make a case for increased funding to support the program.

The school board currently faces a $14-million deficit. The budget will be approved in two weeks.
