Via Rail train service has returned to normal after a derailment involving seven grain cars disrupted train travel between Ottawa and Toronto for two days.

Although train service has resumed, Via Rail is warning passengers to expect delays due to the volume of trains using the tracks.

Passengers travelling from Ottawa to Toronto were being bused to their destination on Wednesday and Thursday after a CP train derailed near Smiths Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Those travelling from Toronto to Ottawa were able to travel by train to Brockville, and were then bused for the last leg of their trip.

The derailment caused lengthy disruptions due to the amount of damage done to the track.
