Three men from the Toronto-area are charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old Ottawa man.

Ottawa police have jointly charged Kristopher Allan McLellan, 20, Dylon Tyrone Barnett, 19, and Kyle Mullen, 19.

The trio was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 401 just east of Gananoque on Monday morning.

Although charges have been laid, police say their investigation is ongoing.

The call to police originally came in as a home invasion at about 1 a.m. Monday. Police quickly learned the break-in ended with the shooting of a young man who lived with roommates in a Moodie Drive rental home in Ottawa's rural west end.

The victim, who has been identified as Michael Swan, was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Swan was remembered by friends as one of the nicest people they've ever known. Those who knew him said he would always brighten your day. They say he'll be forever missed.

Swan's death marks Ottawa's third homicide of the year. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
