Area Loblaws stores have doubled orders from two Ottawa bakeries after their products were stricken from the shelves of the same company's Real Canadian Superstores.

Hanna's Bakery and Rideau Bakery were notified Tuesday that their goods will be featured more prominently in Loblaws supermarkets

Charbel Hanna called the news a "comforting" development, saying he was told "they're supporting 'buy local' and (that) the decision by Superstores was not made by them."

Rideau Bakery and Hanna's Bakery were told last week to stop shipping their breads and pitas to the three area Superstores. No reason was given. The bakeries have been servicing the stores for years.

Both bakeries had worried the policy would extend to all Loblaws stores - their bread and butter.

In response, Loblaws told CTV Ottawa in an e-mail that it adds and removes vendors all the time, but because of the competitive nature of the business, it couldn't comment on its strategies.
