A 15-year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police has been accused of impaired driving while responding to a call near Smiths Falls on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were at a home on Roger Stevens Drive in Montague Township for an unrelated investigation when a plainclothes officer arrived in an unmarked police vehicle at 3:55 p.m. to provide assistance.

A sergeant observed the fellow officer and arrested him, according to an OPP statement issued Sunday.

The officer reported to the scene while on duty, Sgt. Kristine Rae told ctvottawa.ca.

Detective Constable Steve Brown was charged with impaired driving and released with a promise to appear in Perth court on Aug. 31.

Brown is posted with the Lanark County OPP detachment.
