Police say tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of two people wanted for first-degree murder in Sudbury.

Kristopher Campbell Lavallee, 28, and a 17-year-old were arrested Thursday night without incident in Lebel-sur-Quevillon, Que., located about 500 kilometres north of Ottawa.

Earlier this week, police searched for the pair in the Upper Ottawa Valley, where both of the suspects once lived.

The 17-year-old cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, a judge previously allowed the media to identify the teenager.

Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for the pair after unidentified human remains were discovered in a bush located off a residential area in Sudbury's east end on Tuesday.

The arrests come two days after Sudbury police released a photo of the suspects, which Insp. Todd Zimmerman said played a role in their arrests.

"We received information where they were and I mean we've been getting tips from the public and the police departments as well," Zimmerman told CTV Ottawa on Friday.

Police say the suspects were transported to Val-d'Or, Que. following their arrests. They will be held there until they can be transferred into the custody of Sudbury police.

Police say although the suspects were wanted for first-degree murder, additional charges may be pending.

In the meantime, Zimmerman said police would still like to speak to anyone who may have been in contact with the pair prior to their arrests.

"We'd still like to talk to people that have come in contact with them in Ontario or Quebec. And if they haven't contacted us because of fear of reprisal, (the suspects) have been apprehended so we'd really like them to come forward with information," he said.

Sightings of the suspects were confirmed in the Bowman and Val-des-Bois area of Quebec on May 30 and May 31. The area is located about 90 kilometres north of Ottawa.

Police say the pair was dropped off by a white vehicle at Gargoyle Lake, Que. on May 30. Investigators are still looking for the driver of that vehicle, and are asking him or her to contact the nearest police station.

The suspects also have a connection to Arnprior, Ont., where both of them once lived.

Police have said little about the homicide victim. Officers say the identity of the victim will not be released until forensic testing is complete and next of kin are notified. Zimmerman said that could take some time.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sudbury police at 705-675-9171, ext. 2355 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
