A major interprovincial crossing linking Ottawa and Gatineau is reopening after almost six months of structural repairs that cost an estimated $800,000.

Public Works closed one lane of the Chaudire Bridge in each direction when deterioration was discovered in the masonry arches last December.

Now, the arches of the bridge have been reinforced and inspectors say the bridge is ready to be reopened to traffic.

The Chaudire Bridge is one of two interprovincial truck crossings, carrying more than 27,000 vehicles per day between Ottawa and Gatineau.
