Those who like Apple technology will be pleased to know an Apple store will likely open in the capital by late summer.

The Ottawa Apple store will be the ninth store in Canada, which carries everything from iPods to iPhones and Mac computers.

Rideau Centre general manager Cindy VanBuskirk says they are in negotiations but nothing has been finalized.

She tells CTV Ottawa that such a store would be "a real coup."

Apple's website is already accepting job applications, but the company is not returning any calls and is not offering any comment. Its website says the company also plans another Canadian store for Toronto.

Apple Stores number over 200 around the world and now account for over four billion in annual sales or about 17 per cent of total Apple sales.

An Apple outlet did open in Ottawa in the mid-1990s but closed shortly after because it failed to attract enough business. It was not run by Apple. The company only started running its own stores in 2001.
