Ottawa's famous Beaver Tail pastries are slated to be on the menu at the Canadian Embassy in Washington when Barack Obama is inaugurated as president of the United States next week.

"We got a call in mid-December from the embassy, asking us if we would be willing to serve about 1,000 of their special guests our special pastry," said Grant Hooker, one of the founders of Hooker's BeaverTails.

Hooker says the "Obama Tail" will be loaded with the classic Beaver Tail cinnamon and sugar flavour, topped with maple flavoured eyes and a Nutella 'O.'

He hopes to serve one of his tasty Canadian treats to the president himself when he makes his first foreign visit to the capital.

"I think he ought to strap on his skates and we'll see what kind of an athlete he really is," Hooker told CTV Ottawa on Tuesday.

Obama's planned trip to Canada will continue a longstanding tradition of new American presidents choosing to make their first official state visit to Canada.
